Is Plan F Going Away?

Plan F, Plan GThe easy answer is no for medicare customers eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.  You might have heard about new legislation that has effects on Medicare Supplement Plans F & G.  It is called the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) and here’s what you need to know.


FACT: Anyone eligible for Medicare Part A before January 1, 2020 can still enroll in Plan F or Plan C; even after 2020 and can keep their plans as long as they want.


FACT: Anyone who becomes eligible for Medicare Part A on or after January 1, 2020 will not be able to purchase Medicare Supplement Plans F & G.  Plan G will be a suitable alternative.


FACT:  Insured members already enrolled in Plans F and C don’t need to take any action.  Plans F and C will still be available for consumers eligible to purchase in the year 2020 and beyond.

Here is what You can Expect from Plans F & G

Coverage: Plan F has a lot in common with Plan G.  However; unlike F, Plan G doesn’t cover the Medicare Part B annual deductible.


Flexibility: Like Plan F, Plan G members can choose any doctor or hospital that accepts Original Medicare patients.


Freedom to Travel: Goes with you when you travel anywhere in the U.S. and pays a benefit if you receive emergency medical services while traveling outside the U.S. (up to plan limits).
